Modélisation de l'Amplification et de l'Erosion des VAgues

Maeva project

Objectives

The MAEVA project aims at a better understanding of the mechanisms of generation, intensification and dissipation of large amplitude waves associated with extreme weather conditions in tropical zones (tropical storms and cyclones).

Approach

We propose an original approach combining mathematical and numerical developments to exploit the observational data of the CFOSAT mission supplemented by in situ measurements.

Motivations

Damages caused by these extreme events and their consequences in terms of human lives as well as in economic terms are unfortunately obvious to anyone. However, the role of extreme waves in the emergence of atolls and low islands remains poorly understood. It is nevertheless essential in the context of rising oceans.

Mission

The MAEVA project is based on the use of the CFOSAT mission, which was launched in October 2018.
